ADVACRYL suture is braided synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% Glycolide and 10% L-lactide. Braided ADVACRYL suture is coated with a mixture composed of Poly (Glycolide-co-lactide) (Glacomer 37) and calcium stearate. The suture is colored violet to increase visibility and is also available undyed.
The advanced extrusion process of copolymer, the exclusive braiding process and coating system, gives ADVACRYL:

With great versatility comes the confidence to meet specific needs

Robust manufacturing process & superior primary aluminium packaging

  • ADVACRYL suture is a braided, synthetic absorbable sterile surgical suture composed of a copolymer made from 90% glycolide and 10% L-lactide, coated with a mixture composed of Poly (glycolide-co-lactide) (Glacomer 37) and calcium stearate. ADVACRYL suture is available in both dyed and undyed form.
  • ADVACRYL suture is indicated for use in general soft tissue approximation and/or ligation, including use in ophthalmic surgery, peripheral nerve anastomosis and micro surgery for vessels less than 2 mm diameter, but not for cardiovascular tissues.
  • ADVACRYL suture being an absorbable suture, should not be used where extended approximation of tissue under stress is required. The use of this suture is also contraindicated in patients with known sensitivities or allergies to Polyglactin 910.
  • The progressive loss of tensile strength and eventual absorption of ADVACRYL occurs by means of hydrolysis where the copolymer degrades to glycolic and lactic acids which are subsequently absorbed and metabolized in the body. Absorption begins as a loss of tensile strength followed by a loss of mass.

*Mass Absorption: Time in days required for suture to be totally absorbed in the body.

ADVACRYL suture complies with United States Pharmacopeia requirement for “Absorbable Surgical Suture” and the European Pharmacopoeia for “Sterile Synthetic Absorbable Braided Sutures”.
