Following the Department of Health’s statement of strategy 2016 -2019, there is a commitment to shift to Primary Care. The Programme for Partnership Government confirmed the Government’s commitment to a decisive shift towards primary care so that we can provide more comprehensive care for people within their own communities. Primary Care is where the vast majority of healthcare needs can be addressed at the most appropriate level of complexity and most cost-effectively.
Minister Harris said “The provision of a €25 million primary care fund in Budget 2018 demonstrates this Government’s ongoing commitment to shifting the model of healthcare towards a more comprehensive and accessible primary care service in order to deliver better care close to home in communities across the country”.
